What we collect
Information you give us
If you submit the email-capture form to receive the free chapter, the contact form, or any other form on this site, we collect:
- Your email address
- Your name, if you provide it
- The contents of any message you send
Information collected automatically
When you visit this site, our hosting provider and analytics tools automatically collect basic technical information:
- IP address (anonymized where possible)
- Browser type and version
- Pages visited and time spent
- Referring website (e.g. TikTok, Google)
This data is used in aggregate to understand traffic patterns. It is not used to identify you personally.
How we use your information
- To deliver the free chapter or other materials you request.
- To send you the Emma Rhodes newsletter, if you've opted in. You can unsubscribe with one click at the bottom of any email.
- To respond to your messages sent through the contact form.
- To understand and improve the site through aggregated analytics.
Third-party services
We use a small number of trusted third-party services. Each handles a specific job and has its own privacy policy:
- Email delivery (ConvertKit / Beehiiv / similar) — to send newsletters and download links.
- Analytics (Plausible / Google Analytics) — to count visits in aggregate.
- Substack — when you click through to subscribe to the newsletter on Substack, you are governed by Substack's privacy policy.
- Amazon — book purchases happen on Amazon and are governed by Amazon's privacy policy. We may earn a small affiliate commission on referrals; this does not change the price you pay.
Cookies
This site uses a minimum number of cookies. We use essential cookies to remember whether you've dismissed the cookie banner. We use analytics cookies to count visitors (which can be opted out of). We do not use advertising cookies on this site.
Your rights
Regardless of where you live, you can:
- Access the data we have about you
- Correct it if it's wrong
- Delete it entirely (request unsubscribe + erasure)
- Object to processing
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format
If you live in the EU, UK, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA. To exercise any of these, email emmarhodesbooks@gmail.com. We'll respond within 30 days.
Data retention
We keep your email on our mailing list until you unsubscribe. Contact-form messages are kept for up to two years for reference, then deleted. Analytics data is kept in aggregate indefinitely; individual visits are not retained.
Children
This site and the book are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has submitted information, email us and we'll delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard security (HTTPS, reputable third-party services). No system is perfect — please don't send us anything via web form that you wouldn't be comfortable having in an email inbox.
Changes
If this policy changes meaningfully, we'll note the new date at the top and, for material changes, email subscribers.
